Managing Complexity in 2025:

Building Adaptability and Resilience into Teams

The Brief

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday’s logic.
— Peter Drucker

Nobody can predict the future, but our best guess is that the demands that leaders and teams are facing today will only increase.

Grow faster. Do so with fewer resources. Retain employees. Keep them engaged. Don’t burnout. Change, change, change.

To successfully navigate the path forward in this future, we believe that leaders must shift their focus from trying to engage individual employees to fostering adaptable and resilient teams. Success will be an endurance challenge and no single trailblazer will be able to outperform a well-equipped team. We call these teams Future Ready.

Teams with high levels of adaptability and resilience show:

  • 3.2x higher levels of employee engagement than peers.
  • 3.9x higher levels of innovation than peers

But to build a new type of team, we will have to lean on a new set of approaches, tools, systems, and expertise than we have in the past – that’s where the Industry Night community comes in. During our event, HR and Change Leaders to discussed tactical stories, learnings, and challenges on how adaptability and resilience are showing up in their organizations.

Discussion topics:
  • Strategic Alignment | A shared sense of clarity about where the org is going, how it intends to get there, and how each employee fits in.
  • Empowered Decision Making | A culture in which team leaders are effective at setting the vision and empowering their teams to work with autonomy and agency towards the desired outcomes.
  • Psychological Safety |An environment in which employees can express themselves – ideas, concerns, mistakes, and feedback – without fear of humiliation, punishment, or retribution.
  • Understanding of the Business |Shared awareness of the organization’s
business model and the complex ecosystem of stakeholders needed to make it successful.
  • Facilitative Leadership | A leadership culture that is defined by egoless decision making, deep listening, stakeholder co-creation, and power-with (not power over) change models.
  • Direct Communication |  An organizational muscle for speaking the truth, embracing healthy debate, and effectively navigating tension.
