June 27, 2014 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

You need boil down the story of your product, project or service into a powerful narrative. We’ll show you how. We’ll dig into your story and focus on the key parts.
Using visual techniques and rapid iteration, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of what makes stories tick and how to use them to create change.
In this highly interactive workshop, we will explore the following topics –
    • How and why storytelling is a powerful communication tool.
    • How stories are constructed and how to examine a story: The techniques of story design
    • Techniques and tips for creating and telling stories that make your point as well as deliver emotional impact such as:
      • Visual story mapping
      • expressiveness and tonality
      • story arcs and how best to use them

You’ll leave with several activities you’ll want to bring back to your team to enhance the storytelling skills in your office.

This session is best for those who are new to storytelling or those who would like to refresh their storytelling muscles. Previous storytelling experience is not required.

The Design Gym is founded and run by a group of friends who use these skills every day. We practice in Fortune 500 companies, top design strategy firms, and global social investment organizations. We’ve worked with the good, the bad, and the ugly and want to share what we’ve learned along the way.

Driven by discovery and the desire to help, Jie believes we shall be the change we want to see. Previously, she produced live radio shows in Shanghai for children, provided social services to families in the Northwest Bronx, and designed service to enhance resource access for public school classrooms. Currently, she’s helping grow a startup social enterprise, Catchafire, that empowers people to give back with their skills.

Daniel started off as a Physicist, studied Industrial Design, then evolved into a User Experience Design Consultant. Prior to starting the Design Gym, he had the pleasure of working on product and service design projects, as well as mobile, web and embedded interfaces for clients from Abbot to Yamaha. He is also 1/4 of GothamSmith, a line of 3D printed products. Tweet to him @dastillman
