Design Gym Facilitation Workshop Series

June 9, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - June 23, 2014 @ 9:30 pm

Over 3 sessions, we’ll take a small group of Design Gym enthusiasts and prepare them to run groups large and small, both on your own and with others. You’ll  walk away with new and deeper skills on group facilitation, planning and management.

In addition, this class is a critical checkpoint in becoming eligible to begin running events and classes with The Design Gym on your own. After successfully completing this course and doing some practice workshops with us, we will begin feeding you exciting opportunitities to work on projects and events, from running our weekend and day-long bootcamps, to creating and running your own workshops.

We’ll emphasize:

    • Measuring group dynamics on the fly
    • Visual facilitation
    • Maintaining energy (especially during ideation and brainstorming sessions)
    • Balancing solo time and group thinking
    • Forming and developing a personal toolkit of Design Thinking skills
    • A modular approach to implementing and using the process in your work

    • Diagnose your current facilitation style
    • Vocal Range
    • Icebreakers and energy in the room
    • Active Listening
    • Facilitation practice and feedback

    • Visual Facilitation Skills
    • Handling Tough people, transitional questions
    • Open, Explore and Close: Creating Experience Arcs
    • Facilitation practice and feedback

    • The Five Phases of Design Thinking and how to manage them
    • Facilitation practice and feedback
    • Next Steps

The class will run 3 sessions at 3 hours each, and will go deep into being able to discuss, teach and drive activities across the design process.

For the past three months, Gabrielle Santa-Donato has been in Chile building a community with The Design Gym. Gabrielle is a former client and graduate of our past master class and will be helping us kick off this class.

The Design Gym is founded and run by a group of friends who use these skills every day. We practice in Fortune 500 companies, top design strategy firms, and global social investment organizations. We’ve worked with the good, the bad, and the ugly and want to share what we’ve learned along the way.
